The Failure of Baba Resulted in the End of My South Indian Film Career

Manisha Koirala is a prominent name in the Indian film industry. She has acted in several blockbuster Hindi films and also featured in many South Indian movies like Bombay, Indian, and Mudhalvan. In a recent interview with O2 India YouTube channel, Manisha Koirala opened up about her career in the South Indian film industry and how the failure of Rajinikanth’s Baba impacted it.

During the conversation, Manisha Koirala talked about the impact Rajinikanth-led Baba had on her career. She revealed that Baba was probably her last big Tamil film and it flopped so badly that it was a huge disaster.

A lot of expectations were on the film, and when it flopped, she thought her career in South Indian films was gone completely, and it did in a way. She further added that before Baba, she was doing multiple, good South Indian films, but after Baba flopped, she stopped getting offers.

Rajinikanth-led Baba was directed by Suresh Krissna. The movie saw Rajinikanth playing a carefree young atheist Baba, who learns that he’s the reincarnation of a great saint from the Himalayas. The film was re-released in theatres last year on the occasion of Rajini’s birthday and managed to register decent numbers at the box office.

During the same interview, Manisha Koirala also shared that she was glad that Baba turned out to be a hit when it was re-released after 20 years.

She mentioned that it was unheard of that a film that was a flop earlier would become a hit after so many years. She further added that Rajinikanth sir can never give a flop, and he is such a kind man to work with.

Since the release of Baba, Manisha did a brief role in Kamal Haasan’s Mumbai Xpress (2005). This film was simultaneously shot and released in Hindi and Tamil.

Manisha Koirala’s last silver screen appearance was in Karthik Aaryan’s Shehzada, the Hindi remake of Allu Arjun’s Telugu blockbuster Ala Vaikuntapuramlo (2022). She will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix web series Heeramandi later this year.

In conclusion, Manisha Koirala’s candid chat about her career down south sheds light on how one flop can impact an actor’s career in the film industry. Despite facing setbacks, Manisha Koirala continues to work in the industry and is all set to feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming Netflix web series Heeramandi.
