RCB Dominates MI in TATA IPL 2023 Match 5

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by eight wickets in the fifth match of TATA IPL 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. RCB won the toss and chose to bowl.

Mohammed Siraj gave an early breakthrough by having Ishan Kishan caught at third man in the third over. Kishan had hit a couple of fours off David Willey, but Siraj sent him back in his next over. Cameron Green hit a four but was cleaned up by a superb yorker from Topley. Rohit Sharma was also caught behind off Akash Deep. Tilak Verma counter-attacked and scored a quickfire 52 off 25, propelling MI to 171/7.

RCB’s opening pair, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, set the stage on fire with a 148-run (off 89 balls) partnership, chasing 172. Du Plessis went after Behrendorff in the third over, hitting a four through covers, two consecutive sixes over deep mid-wicket and a straight six, making 16 runs off the over. Kohli attacked Jofra Archer and hit a six over long off, followed by a pull over mid-wicket, reaching 53/0 at the end of the Powerplay.

Du Plessis hit a couple of fours and sixes to make it a 17-run over against Green, followed by consecutive sixes off Hrithik Shokeen, bringing up his fifty off just 29 balls. RCB reached 97/0 at the halfway stage. Kohli reached his fifty off 38 balls, and a six off Chawla brought up the 100-run stand. Behrendorff came back, but Kohli and Du Plessis took him to the cleaners with two fours and a six, accumulating 16 off the over. Kohli kept taking the aggressive approach against Archer and pulled one into the stands to bring the equation down to 33 off 36.

Kohli hit a six off Arshad but was then dropped off the next ball by Shokeen at deep mid-wicket. MI finally got their first breakthrough as Arshad had Du Plessis (73 off 43) caught at long on off a slower one. Green sent back Karthik for a duck in the next over. Maxwell finished it off by cracking consecutive sixes off the same Green over. Kohli remained unbeaten on 82 off 49 balls as RCB cruised to an 8-wicket win with 22 balls to spare.

RCB named David Willey, Sonu Yadav, Mahipal Lomror, Suyash Prabhudessai, and Anuj Rawat as their substitutes. MI named Jason Behrendorff, Vishnu Vinod, Ramandeep Singh, Shams Mulani, and Sandeep Warrier as their substitutes.

RCB started their IPL campaign with a win, and their opening duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli set the stage on fire with their partnership. MI’s Tilak Verma counter-attacked with his quickfire 52 off 25, but it wasn’t enough as RCB’s batting lineup proved too strong for MI’s bowling attack.
